Glendronach Batch 17 Single Casks arrive in Australia
For 10 years, Scottish distillery The Glendronach have been releasing a limited batch of single casks. This year again, we have 14 amazing casks hand selected by Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie and, surprise surprise, it's another triumph!
The GlenDronach Single Cask Batch 17 is a batch of 14 single cask whiskies ranging from 12 to 28 years old, and distilled between 1990 and 2007 all of which have been bottled at cask strength with the ABV ranging from 49.3% to 60.9%.
Due to global popularity, Glendronach have decided to split the casks into two offering. Australia (alongside Asia, New Zealand & Canada) will get exclusive access to 6 amazing casks.
The Whisky List team were lucky to get a small taste preview ahead of the launch this week of the six single casks. What's most exciting is this year, we have a great selection of both Oloroso and PX casks, but also the inclusion of a Port pipe - which we collectively agreed was a standout. We expect this to be immensely popular and will sell out fast.

Glendronach Master Blender Notes
Dr Rachel Barrie commented on this latest batch of single cask whiskies, saying: "The batch seventeen cask selection truly celebrates The GlenDronach house style; robust, elegant, fruity and full-bodied. Each cask individually explores the sophistication, powerful intricacy and rich layers of Spanish sherry cask maturation found in every GlenDronach expression; from layers of crème brûlée, treacle toffee and over-ripe banana in 1990 to baked blackberry and currants with dark chocolate in 1992, burnt raisin and Oloroso-soaked tobacco leaf in 1995 to toasted pain au raisin and butterscotch simmering beneath the surface in 2007."
The Whisky List Tasting Notes
Glendronach 2006, 13yo, Cask #3359, Oloroso puncheon, 56.7%
Nose: Sherry headiness and crisp dehydrated raspberries. Juicy raisins, lavender, honeycomb, dried mango, Pepe Saya butter. Surprisingly very little alcohol-burn at this quite high ABV.
Palate: Sweet, heady, and bold. This really delivers a fantastic balance of flavours. Banana and pear spiced muffin, caramel popcorn.
Finish: Long, oily and sweet. Some lovely tartness towards the end.
Glendronach 2006, 13yo, Cask #3343, PX puncheon, 56.3%
Nose: Very aromatic. Peach melba meets butterscotch cream. Hints of orange marmalade, sweet overripe plums, light fruit cake, and lots of fruity-sweetness. Plus sweetness you get from nosing Bourbon, possibly the vanilla scents.
Palate: Sherrybomb! Spicey with a good amount of warming pepper, but is calmed down by vanilla and soft fruit (plum/apricot/un-ripe peach). Again peach melba.
Finish: Long, warm, and sweet. Butterscotch again.
Glendronach 1995, 23yo, Cask #3040, PX puncheon, 52.5%
Nose: Lots of chewy malt, sour raisins, toffee sauce, sherry, and vanilla custard. Hints of caramelised banana, coal boiler smoke, egg custard and a whisper of blueberries.
Palate: Balance of warming sherry and gentle dryness. Coal tar, sandalwood, old side table, black lapsing, rooibos with the sour raisins from the nose sneaking through.
Finish: Medium - long.
Glendronach 1992, 26yo, Cask #5896, Port pipe, 49.3%
Nose: Beautiful nose. Sweet and soft with caramelised sugar. Simmering soft plums, fresh orange zest, beeswax, rosemary, vanilla cream wafer.
Palate: Maple syrup on marzipan, dry sherry, choc coated candied orange, peppers, thick oily sweetness.
Finish: Long and oily. This whisky is complex, take some time to sip and enjoy.
Glendronach 1992, 26yo, Cask #113, Oloroso butt, 50.1%
Nose: Fruit simmered in bubbling butter. Smashed coconut, toffee and musk sticks.
Palate: Flicks of ginger, mellowed out by rose water, milk chocolate and balanced by a spirit still quite bright.
Finish: Long, with a tart-dryness.
Glendronach 1990, 28yo, Cask #2623, Oloroso butt, 50.1%
Nose: Very fruity. Lots of berries, cherries, vanilla, warmed dessert wine, prunes, brown sugar, shortbread, bergamot, Irish Christmas.
Palate: Nutty, dry from the start, like you get with bitter chocolate on the aftertaste, surprisingly light on tannins, mixed with banoffee pie
Finish: Medium-long. Coffee notes on the aftertaste.
